A new report suggests that when you’re looking to get a train to work, you probably don’t need to go out of your way to do so.
The report by train company Qantas found that just 6% of Australians used a public transport pass when travelling to work in the past 12 months.
In fact, only 16% of the population uses public transport in that time.
The report also found that a whopping 94% of people travel on public transport to work.
This is surprising as Australians don’t often get to use public transport, which means many are forced to rely on taxis, public transport or buses to get to work (or simply to stay at home).
The number of trips per day for public transport is actually lower than it is for trains, as only 16.5% of trips for public transportation involve trains.
The report further found that when people were told about public transport options, the average response time was 1 minute and 47 seconds.
But when people are not told about these options, they can end up using public transport.
This could mean people have to travel in their cars or in a taxi that is not a train, which in turn puts pressure on public transit.
While public transport can be a useful tool, it is important to remember that the vast majority of trips are for people who are working or studying in a location, so if you do want to use a public transportation option, you need to be aware of where you are going and when you will be travelling.
